As a mother, I always have my hands full so I have this little habit of placing things on the top of the car to free my hands while I place children and other items in first. I confess, I have lost many things with this habit. The WoRst- a digital camera. Anthony has forgiven me. In fact he even bought me a new one and has never mentioned it again. But the one thing that I cannot live down is the piZZa. Yes, I confess. I left a sausage pizza on top of the car and drove away. The girls have NEVER let me live this down. Every time I get a pizza for dinner they say in unison, "Mom don't leave the pizza on top of the car!" Maybe they still have the image inGrained in their heads of the crows eating their dinner that had sPlaTTered in the middle of the road when we drove back to look for it. Whatever the reason I have NEVER lived it down. I, however, feel pretty good about myself. After all I did see a story on the news how a father put his baby that was in his car seat on top of the car and drove away. Luckily so many cars honked at him he didn't go too far and the baby was unharmed. Now that, I am sure he has never lived down. But I ThAnK him for making me feel a little better about myself! :)
Since I have these little faults as a wife and mother, I try my best to redeem myself whenever the opportunity arises. Sometimes it works in my favor and other times I fail again. I failed last summer. I took Emma to a Day out with Thomas. (He is a train that she used to like.) 15 minutes after getting there she had to go potty. They only had ouThouses. I opened the door wide unaware of the fact that her little finger was in the crack of the door and I pinched it hard! Now whenever a Day out with Thomas is mentioned nothing is said about the fun train ride or the cute puppet show she saw that day. No. All that is mentioned is, "Mom do you remember when you hurt my finger at Thomas?" What about the delicious ICE CREAM we had that day!
Tabitha constantly reminds me of the time I decided to drive up a steep hill in a snowstorm last winter. Car got sTuCk. We had to be rescued by strangers-nice strangers- and trek through the snow. Now every time we go up the hill she says, "Mom don't get stuck again." Do they not realize those really aren't my intentions?
I won't even talk about the time I forgot to buckle Tabitha on the way to Auntie Athena's house.-Don't worry I didn't make it too far before she scolded me. And I promise you it will never happen again thanks to the daily reminding.
But today I was able to PuLL myself out of my hole a few inches. I decorated for St. Paddy's day, made their cream of wheat for breakfast Green and for lunch they had shamrock shaped sandwiches accompanied by green jello and green Kool Aide. This was followed by a LePRechaun scavenger hunt game where they found a "Pot of gold" at the end. The result- I was told I was, and I quote, "The best mom in the WHOLE World." I guess LuCk was on my side today afterall.
